Obituary

LIMINGTON - Violet Mary Clark, age 85, passed peacefully in her home with her family by her side on Oct. 22, 2023.

She was born in Dunville, Newfoundland on September 16, 1938, a daughter of the late William and Ethel (Power) Dunphy.

Violet first worked as a laundry presser on the US Naval Base in Argentia, Newfoundland. She later met her beloved husband of 63 years, Wayne Clark, Sr., at Kelly’s Snack Bar in Jersey Side. They soon married and started their family as they traveled with the US Navy for 20 years and built their forever home here in Limington.

Violet never drove but she’d always tell you she could because she had her fishing license. There wasn’t a real brake pedal on the passenger side but she made sure there was a footprint on the floor or reminded you that your blinker was still on.

Violet stayed home to raise her children, grandchildren, and all the neighbor’s children up and down the east coast wherever they were stationed. She was known by all as “Grammy”.

There wasn’t anyone allowed to be hungry in her presence as she’d always ask you, “Did-jeet?”. Her favorite place to go was the grocery store. She was known for her baked beans but more so for her famous homemade buns and bread.

Violet loved her family more than anything. She is predeceased by her daughter, Debbie, who passed away May of 1961, shortly after birth. She is also predeceased by her brother, Ron Dunphy, who passed away in May of 2001.

She is survived by her devoted husband, Wayne K. Clark, Sr. and their three children; Ruth Daigle and husband Norman, Wayne Clark, Jr. and significant other Stephanie St. John, and William (Billy) Clark and wife Gloria; her grandchildren Patrick, Sherri, Marie, Dustin, Joey, Ashley, Ellie, Dean, Ben, and Jake; and her great grandchildren Landon, Alexia, Tobias, Keyana, Arlo, Amari, Roman, Nova, Elijah, Nevaeh, Dean Jr., Brendan, and Olivia. She’s also survived by her sister, Patricia (Dunphy) Russell and many other family and friends.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday Oct. 27th from 12 noon to 2 PM at the Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St., Cornish. A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2 PM. Burial will then follow at Limington Village Cemetery.
