Delia Mae (Berry) McBean of Worcester died Thursday, October 19th on her 69th birthday. She leaves a son, Pierre Glover of Boston; three daughters, Toosdhi Berry of Fall River, Pamela Walters and her husband, Roul “Tito” of Winter Spring, FL, and Latoya Brewster and her husband, Philip of Malden; three brothers, David Lee Berry, Jr. and his wife, Marjorie of Dudley, Greg Calvin Berry and his wife, Nilka of Savanah, GA, and Anthony M. Berry and his wife, Jill of Greensboro, NC; a sister, Rose Marie Berry of Greensboro, NC; 10 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family. She was predeceased by a sister, Dandria Layvonia Hassan.
Delia was born in Worcester, the daughter of David Lee Berry, Sr., and Della Jane (Woods) Berry. She was affectionately known as Della Mae to many; and graduated from North High School and Rob Roy School of Cosmetology. Della Mae worked as a CNA for many years at Belmont Home, Worcester State hospital and local nursing homes, she was also a hairdresser and spent some time working in retail stores prior to retiring.
As the matriarch of the family, Della Mae enjoyed bringing people together especially with food. Her home was known as a safe space where you were guaranteed to get a hot plate of food and good conversation. Her home was always open to those in need and countless individual found refuge with her. She had many friends, and treated everyone as if they were family. She loved to be surrounded by people specifically her children and grandchildren.
Her visitation will be held on Friday, October 27th from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue followed by her funeral service at 12:00 p.m. Burial will be in Worcester County Memorial Park, 217 Richards Avenue, Paxton.
