Obituary

CHICOPEE – Ronald F. Roy, 85, a longtime resident of 56 years of Cobb Avenue in the Sandy Hill section of Chicopee and currently a resident of the Fairview section of Chicopee, went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Springfield on December 7, 1937, the son of the late Wilfred G. and Adrienne I. (Labrie) Roy. He graduated from Saint Joan of Arc School in the Aldenville section of Chicopee in 1952. He attended LaSalette Seminary in Enfield, New Hampshire for two years and graduated from Cathedral High School in 1956. He was a Firefighter with over 31 years of service for the City of Chicopee. He was the holder of Badge One when he retired on January 23, 1999. On August 8, 2023, Ron had the honor of pinning his son, Richard, with Badge One. Ron also served with the 26th Yankee Division Army National Guard for ten years. He was a full time employee for 29 years at the former Pat’s Supermarket in Holyoke where he met the love of his life, Antoinette. He also was employed for 21 years with Big Y. He lived most of his life in Chicopee and enjoyed fishing, hunting and cheering the Boston Bruins. He also enjoyed being with his wonderful children, his loving eleven grandchildren and his six loveable great grandchildren, whom he was affectionately known as “Pépère” and “Great Pépère.” Ron and Antoinette also loved to travel, having been to Florida, Maine, Hawaii, Paris, London and cruising to the Caribbean. He was a longtime communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee where he served his parish as an usher and a senior altar server. He leaves his beloved wife and best friend, Antoinette M. (Lis) Roy. They were married on July 26, 1958 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 65 years of happiness together. He also leaves his three loving and devoted sons, Robert J. Roy and his wife, Ann Marie, of West Springfield, David F. Roy and his wife, Kristen, of Spring Hill, FL and Richard P. Roy and his wife, Cindy, of Chicopee; his eleven cherished grandchildren, Emily Boerth and her husband, Jeffrey, Edward Roy, Melissa Roy and her fiancé, Kieran Dean, Katherine Roy, Taylor Jette and her husband, Colin, Allison Gil and her husband, Tony, Olivia Roy, Gillian Dias and her husband, Jeffrey, Kimberly Tower and her husband, Joshua, Nicole Quiterio and her husband, Kevin, and Heather Mateo and her husband, Christopher; his six cherished great grandchildren, Payton Dias, Wyatt Tower, Cameron and Kayla Quiterio, and Carmela and Angelo Mateo; his dear brother, Bernard J. Roy and his wife, Donna, of Russell; his dear sister in law, Nancy Roy of Chicopee; and his many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his dear twin brother, Donald G. Roy who was Called Home on May 24, 2009; and his dear sister in law, Irene Bernacki who was Called Home on May 28, 2018. His family will receive friends on Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot and main entrance of the funeral home are located in the rear at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His funeral will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 beginning at the funeral home at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 594 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Burial will follow the Mass at Sainte Rose Cemetery, 49 Olsen Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
