GRANBY – Marlene J. (Cooke) Sowa, 79, of Granby, was Called Safely Home on Thursday, October 19, 2023. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Holyoke on August 1, 1944, a beloved daughter of the late Thomas R. and Regina F. (Daudelin) Cooke. She was raised in Granby, graduated from South Hadley High School and had lived in Granby her entire life. She was employed as a Scale House Operator at the John S. Lane Quarry in Amherst and had also worked in the Granby Public Schools cafeteria, the J.M. Fields Department Store in Holyoke and the John Lalond Center Pharmacy in Granby. During her leisure time, she enjoyed trying her luck at the Mohegan Sun Casino, many local bingo games and playing cards with her family. Above all, she loved spending time with her family and her many friends. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Kenneth H. Sowa who was Called Home on January 11, 2020. They were married on July 27, 1963 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Granby and were blessed with over 56 years of happiness together. She leaves her two loving children, Lynn R. Mercier and her husband, Philip, of Belchertown and Mark T. Sowa of Inglis, FL; her seven cherished grandchildren, Amanda Ouimette, Scott Martin and his wife, Anna, Rose Gates and her husband, Josh, Corey Mercier and his partner, Nichole McClellan, Christopher Sowa and his wife, Amy, Shane Sowa and Andrew Polmetiere; her 11 cherished great grandchildren; her sister Laura’s dear longtime partner, James Glascock of Summerfield, FL; her dear sister in law, Joyce Angers and her husband, Norman, of Belchertown; and her many dear nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family members and friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her dear sister, Laura Marcille who was Called Home on January 20, 2023. Her Funeral will be private and her Burial will be private at West Cemetery in Granby. There are no visiting hours.
