Obituary

WEBSTER – Robert A. “Bob” Walkowiak, 97, died Tuesday, October 17, 2023 in the Holy Trinity Rehab & Nursing Center in Worcester after an illness. His wife of 57 years, Agnes J. (Szymczak) Walkowiak, died in 2007.

He leaves several nephews and nieces including Janet L. Mielewski of Wolfeboro, NH and Gregory Walkowiak of Webster; and a cousin, Victor Mrozinski. He was preceded in death by his 4 brothers, Francis “Lolly” Walkowiak, Joseph Walkowiak, Theodore Walkowiak and Thomas Walkowiak and by his sister, Virginia Leo.

He was born on May 24, 1926 in Webster, a son of William O. and Lucy (Mrozinski) Walkowiak and lived here all his life. He graduated from St. Joseph Elementary School and attended Bartlett High School. He received his honorary diploma in 2001.

He entered the United States Navy in April, 1944 and served as a seaman first class on the USS Aircraft Carrier Nassau in the Pacific Theater. He was honorably discharged on June 2, 1946.

Mr. Walkowiak worked in several area shoe companies including Bates Shoe Company in Webster as a foreman. He retired from Cranston Print Works Company in 1993.
Bob was a life member of Saint Joseph Basilica and belonged to the Polish American Citizens Club.

His funeral will be held Monday, October 23, at 11:00 AM in Saint Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street (please meet at the church). Burial, with military honors provided by the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council, will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. There are no calling hours. Donations in his memory may be made to St. Joseph Elementary School, 47 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School Street.
