Richard “Dick” Ellsworth Barter, 89, of Franklin, died peacefully at Milford Hospital with family by his side, Wednesday October 18, 2023 . He is now reunited with his beloved wife, Jessie Barter.
Born September 29, 1934, in North Easton, a son of the late Frederick and Edna Barter. He was raised and educated in North Easton, and was a Franklin resident for over 60 years.
Dick was a proud veteran of the National Guard and a member of the Carpenter Union 33. All who worked with him were inspired by his strong work ethic and skills. He was creative and could fix anything that he came across.
He lived a happy life filled with a devoted wife, children & grandchildren who adored him, and wonderful friends. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, listening to Elvis and spent many hours at his work bench. He could tell you all about a specific car, and he was always happiest driving his cherished pick-up truck.
More than anything, he loved and adored his family. His marriage with Jessie of 58 years was admirable by all who knew them. He was so proud of his two daughters, Lorraine and Dianne, and was an active papa to Caroline and Cassandra. He would light up a room when he walked in and brought so much love and positivity to all those around him. He was known for telling stories at family dinners and would be the first person to make everyone laugh. His sense of humor and wit will surely be missed.
He is survived by his two daughters, Lorraine A. Saad and her husband David of Norwood, Dianne L. Saywell and her husband Robert of Port Charlotte, Florida, two granddaughters Cassandra Rogers and her husband Brian, and Caroline Saad, his brother William Barter of East Bridgewater and his lady friend Ann Dolan of Franklin. He was the late brother of Harold Gerry Barter .
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass at St. Mary’s Church 1 Church Sq., Franklin on Monday, October 23, at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at the parish cemetery.
Calling hours are Sunday from 2-4 pm in the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St.
