Obituary

Rudolph A. True, 92, of Sandown, NH died Sunday, June 25, 2006 at the Colonial Poplin Nursing Home in Freemont, NH. He was born in Sandown on April 20, 1914, a son of the late Herbert and Gertrude (Pillsbury) True. A resident of Sandown for more than 50 years, Mr. True had previously lived in Hampstead, NH and Derry NH. He attended Sandown and Hampstead schools and graduated from Hampstead High School. Mr. True was a World War II Army veteran and had participated in the Normandy Invasion. Prior to his retirement, Mr. True was employed as a custodian of the Sandown Town Hall. He was also a groundskeeper at the community fields and at the East Hampstead Union Church, where he was a member. Mr. True was also a member of the Sandown Grange for more than 44 years as well as being the oldest living member of the Sandown Volunteer Fire Department, and had at one time served as the Deputy Chief. In addition, he was a Trustee of the Cemetery, a member of the Old Meeting House Historical Association, the Sandown Historical Society and Museum, and Friends of the Library. In 1983 Mr. True was the recipient of the Citizen of the Year honors and was again honored by the town with the dedication of the 1988 Town Report.
He is survived by his sister, Hazel E. Rogan of Sandown, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Following cremation a graveside service was held Thursday, June 29 at 1 PM in the Center Cemetery, Sandown. Memorial donations may be made to the Sandown Fire Department, PO Box 1756, Sandown, NH 03873.
