Edward Henry Barry, 69, of Newton and Cambridge, died peacefully at his home in Cambridge on October 13, 2023 with Margaret Quan, his beloved partner of 15 years, by his side.
Ed grew up in Newton Center, where he attended school at Sacred Heart Parish. He graduated from Catholic Memorial High School where he was an avid sports enthusiast, and basketball player. He worked for the Newton Recreation Department seasonally and was active in sports activities year round.
Upon graduation, Ed worked as a dispatcher for the Newton Police Department. Friendly and warm-hearted, Ed was a “people person”. He spent much of his career as a bus and limousine driver. A highlight of his career was as a driver for the Boston Red Sox during their World Series wIn. His friendly and approachable personality drew people to him, and Ed made ready friends with his customers, co-workers, neighbors and doctors. Ed doted on his many nieces and nephews, bringing joy to family events with his wonderful sense of humor and anecdotes. He will be remembered with great affection by all those who were part of his life.
He is survived by his partner, Margaret Quan of Cambridge with whom he shared a love of travel and of their pet dog, Tiger. Ed is also survived by his sisters, Maureen Celli, Jane Walsh, Susan Aries, Kathleen Barry, Dorothy Vancura, and Gayle Barry and their spouses. He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Henry Barry and Jane (Devlin) Barry of Newton and New London, NH. Arrangements through Casper Funeral and Cremation Services.
