MOULTONBOROUGH ---- Richard Murphy, 68, passed away on Saturday, October 14, 2023.
Richard was born on August 29, 1955, in Boston, MA, the son of Richard Francis Murphy and Beatrice Louise Murphy. He was the middle child of five siblings. He grew up in Wakefield, MA but his favorite memories of his childhood were the summers he spent in Alton Bay on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee with his beloved grandmother.
Richard started dating the love of his life, Pamela Jane, at the age of 19. After being together for almost a decade, they tied the knot in June 1982. In 1995 they moved from Peabody, MA to Belmont, NH to raise their family in the beauty of the Lakes Region. Richard worked as a cook throughout most of his career and worked at Cafe Deja Vu in Laconia for the last 25 years, where he enjoyed feeding the community. In March 2020 he tragically lost his wife and spent the last few years living with his daughter and son-in-law in Moultonborough.
Richard was faced with countless medical struggles during the span of his lifetime where he became the definition of a fighter. He battled a rare liver disease in addition to ulcerative colitis. He survived not just one, but two liver transplants, a kidney transplant, many other operations and procedures, and too many hospital stays to count. Through everything Richard endured, he always remained positive and kept fighting. In addition to everything else he had gone through; he was recently diagnosed with kidney failure and was going to dialysis three days a week. A fighter until the end.
Richard was known for being a big kid at heart. He loved to tell jokes, pull pranks, and had a sense of humor like no other. He was a simple man who didn’t require much to make him happy. He loved to laugh above all else, and had a way of telling his crazy stories in the most animated way that you couldn’t help but laugh. He was a huge animal lover and was happiest when surrounded by his cats and dogs who he spoiled endlessly. He was an extremely proud Papa. He enjoyed all the adventures and the time he spent with his grandson Bladen more than anything.
Richard is survived by his daughter Kayla Proulx and her husband Matthew Proulx, his grandson Bladen Murphy, his brothers, Eric Murphy and Joel Murphy and his wife Kathy, his sister Robyn Barnard and husband Dana, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Richard is predeceased by his beloved wife Pamela (Ross) Murphy, his brother Michael Murphy and sister-in-law Maureen Murphy.
There will be no calling hours.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
