Lorraine Bellemore, 89, of Derry, NH, passed away peacefully Tuesday, October 17, 2023, in her home. She was born on July 24, 1934 in Raymond, NH, a daughter of Archie and Evelyn (Jones) Downing. Lorraine was the 3rd born into a very large family. She was the caretaker of all the children, although she had no children of her own, she loved them all. She was fondly known as “Nane” by all who loved her.
She was a shy person and definitely did not enjoy meeting people, but once she knew you, she was a wonderful, kind, and giving person. She could also be quite feisty under the right circumstances. She enjoyed shopping, yard sales, reading, “hot dog specials” and being with her family.
In 1976 she married Henry Bellemore and later on became a mother figure for her great-grandchildren, a role she relished in. They in return loved and cared for her right up until the end of her life.
In addition to her parents, whom she missed fondly, she was predeceased by her 4 brothers, Philip Downing, James Downing, William Downing, Joseph Downing, and one sister, Vivian McGall.
She is survived by her three great-grandchildren, Amanda Brissette, Kimberly Kowalczyk, and Jessica Cote; two great-great-grandchildren, Evan and Brielle Brissette; Her three sisters, Paula Landry, Gail Parenteau, Claire McIntosh; and one brother, Stuart Downing. As well as many nieces and nephews.
Following cremation, calling hours will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 15 Birch St, Derry. A memorial service will follow at 2:30pm.
