Obituary

Scott A. Curtis (53), of Chester, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on October 12, 2023 at the Elliott Hospital after a long and courageous battle with ALS. Scott was the son of Karl L. Curtis, Sr. and Colleen (Gath) Dube, both of whom predeceased him. He grew up in Derry, sharing his life with his brother, Karl L. Curtis, Jr. (with Carmen Curtis) and his sister, Candy L. (Curtis) Menard (with Gerald “Gerry” Menard, Sr.). He gained two additional brothers, Kevin M. Allard (with Jennifer Allard) and Brian E. Allard (with Amanda Reynolds) and a sister, Karen M. Charte (with Christian Charte) when Scott and I got together.

Scott graduated from Pinkerton Academy in 1988. He worked at J&F Farm, in Derry, New Hampshire, for most of his teenage years into his early 20’s, where he learned many valuable (and not so valuable) lessons from Farmer Phil. He then spent several years working as a Mechanical Assembler for Onvio, BTU International and finally landing at A.W. Chesterton, Co., Groveland, Massachusetts where he spent the last ten years of his working life. A special thank you to A.W. Chesterton, Co. for your support and understanding through Scott’s illness.

Scott’s biggest blessings came with the birth of his son, Zachary A. Curtis and his daughter, Rachel L. Curtis. He truly enjoyed watching them grow up and could not have been prouder of the adults they have become. Given the chance, Scott would never fail to tell someone how awesome and successful his children are. It deeply saddened him to know that he would not be there to celebrate their milestones with them. Scott was an uncle to Robin Menard, Gerald “Buddy” Menard, Jr. (with Kerry Menard), Keenan Curtis (with Lexi Curtis) and Cameron Curtis; as well as the extended pleasure of being an uncle to Lindsey Gelinas (with Steve Gelinas), Braden Adkins-Allard, Elizabeth Allard, Jarrett Charte and Amber Charte. He enjoyed the time spent with all of them and his great nieces (Emma, Riley and Cora) and great nephews (Noah, Caleb, Cadyn and Jack).
Scott will be missed by so many good people that were so important to him, too long to name them all here, but you all know who you are. I consider myself the luckiest of those people, spending over ten years in love and laughter with him. Enjoying life and celebrating with family and friends, as he always insisted. To those who knew Scott will never forget “I haven’t seen you since the last time” or “I have known you since we met”. His infamous and not so infamous jokes will live on in all of us!

“THIS SUCKS” has been our family moto for the past year. ALS is a horrible disease. The two good things that we discovered about this disease is that it makes you appreciate what you have and realize that you need to enjoy every moment. Our family is so thankful for the time we got to share with Scott and to the team of doctors who treated and supported him along the way. A special thank you to the team at the Elliot Hospital ICU. Your help and guidance were invaluable these past final days.

Calling hours will be held at Peabody Funeral Home, 15 Birch Street, Derry, New Hampshire on Friday, October 20, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
