Ruth (Johnson) Church, age 92, a lifelong resident of Norton, passed away peacefully, in the comfort of her home on Friday, October 13, 2023. She was the beloved wife of the late Herbert W. Church, to whom she was wed for seventy years at the time of his death on February 20, 2021.
Born in Northampton, MA on October 23, 1930, she was a loving daughter of the late Clarence W. and Pearl M. (Grono) Johnson.
Ruth grew up in Norton and was a 1948 graduate of Norton High School. Prior to retiring, she was employed as a Guidance Councilor Secretary at Norton High School and previously as a secretary at the Wheaton College Nursery School. When younger, Ruth worked at the former Sweet Box Co. in Norton and at the Foxboro Co.
Ruth was a member of the Trinitarian Congregational Church in Norton and a member of the Norton American Legion Post 222 Ladies Auxiliary. Ruth was proud of her heritage and loved spending time with family, especially at the Johnson Family Reunion and Clam Boil held annually at the Johnson Homestead in Norton. Ruth also had a warm place in her heart for animals and pleasured the times feeding the birds that frequented her yard.
She is survived by her devoted son Bruce W. Church of Norton, as well as her much-loved nieces, nephews and cousins. She was the dear sister of the late Arline Cox, Lester Johnson and Mason Johnson.
Her funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Thursday, October 19th at 12:00 Noon at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (Off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) Norton. Burial will follow at the Norton Common Cemetery in Norton.
Visitation will be held prior to the services on Thursday morning from 11:00 A.M.- 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.
