Janice Kay Murphy

Janice Kay Murphy, 80, of Anderson, passed away on October 4, 2023 after a battle with cancer. She was born on June 15, 1943 in Dayton, Ohio to the late Howard and Flossie (Good) Lane. Jan was a graduate of Piqua High School, and went on to study chemistry at Northwestern University, receiving her degree in 1965. While at Northwestern, she met her future husband Steve and they were married on July 13, 1968 in Piqua, Ohio.
Jan started her career as a chemist at the Piqua Nuclear Power Plant. She and Steve relocated several times before settling in Anderson, where she began her real estate career. Jan served as President of the Anderson/Madison County Association of Realtors and received numerous awards throughout her career.
Jan was a longtime member of P.E.O. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her friends, working in her yard and especially loved spending time with her four grandchildren.
She is survived by her two children, Chris (Lisa) Murphy, Katie (Nate) Husak; four grandchildren, Gavin and Ryan Murphy, Sam and Abby Husak; two brothers, Jim (Barb) Lane, John (Rebecca) Lane; two sisters-in-law, Patty Unes, Glo Murphy; as well as numerous friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Steve Murphy; her daughter, Julie Murphy; two brothers-in-law, Larry Unes, Mike Murphy.
Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on November 18, 2023, at Anderson County Club from 1-3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the Madison County Humane Society.
