Obituary

Norma Louise Koeppel, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, 87, of Halifax, Massachusetts passed away peacefully at home on October 11, 2023. Born in Quincy, MA in 1936, she was the beloved daughter to the late Sterling and Gertrude (Snow) George.

Norma graduated from Braintree High School in 1954. Throughout high school, she participated in the Junior Red Cross club and served as the Vice President of the library staff her senior year. Following graduation, she started working at Singer Sewing Machine Company in Boston until she left to raise her family.

Norma was an avid knitter, spinner, and quilter, having won numerous awards at local 4H fairs in the region. For almost 50 years, she has been a member of the Halifax quilting group and in more recent years she joined the Halifax knitting group that met at the library weekly. A longtime resident of Halifax, she has been a member of the Halifax Congregational Church for over 50 years. She would frequently spend time knitting items to be donated to the various church fairs. She cherished the time that she spent with her family, friends, and her fellow church members.

Norma was predeceased by her husband Rudolph Koeppel.

She was the mother of the late Norrie Cole, Norma is survived by her daughters Nancy and her husband Richard Butters of Middleborough, and Ruth and her husband Frederick McGovern of Halifax. Her grandchildren include Heather and her husband James Bilotta, Jennfer and her husband Christopher Lawson, Lauren Cole and her partner Mike Kent, Madeline Butters, Jacob Butters and Nicholas McGovern and great grandchildren Hailey Cole, Christopher and Francis Bilotta. She was the sister of Robert George and the late Walter George, John George, Jean Wilson and Marion Bollesen.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours Sunday October 15 th from 2:00-5:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA. Funeral services will be held on Monday October 16 th at 11 AM at the Halifax Congregational Church 503 Plymouth St, Halifax, MA. A burial will follow.
