Obituary

HANOVER --- Dr. Charlotte J. Sanborn was called home on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the age of 98 following a short period of declining health.

Charlotte was born on March 14, 1925, in Concord, NH, daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Wood) Holbrook.

Charlotte will always be remembered as the doctor that came on the scene to win many hearts and sway many minds. She was a woman of substance and touched many people’s hearts throughout her career. She was a master of systems and had the ability to maneuver obstacles to achieve the goal. Many hearts have been touched by her humble and kindly efforts for everyone’s good. Charlotte was a teacher, confidant, counselor, author, boss, and mother working to balance her life successfully. Charlotte had her own tragedies throughout her life with losses, but she was an example of strength and fortitude in the perils of her own challenges. Charlotte touched many people throughout her career both young and old. She had the ability to adapt to the ever-changing complexity of our culture. She always quietly uplifted those she came in contact with leaving them feeling good about themselves.

Charlotte leaves behind a legacy of achievements: Bachelor of Arts, 1946; AA in Business Administration, 1957; B Ph. D, 1981; Biostatistician, NH, 1957-1967; Research Associate Department Closed Circuit Television Consultation, 1967-1970; Director NH-Vermont Closed Circuit Medical Interactive Television Project, 1970-1975; Director of Community Services Dartmouth-Hitchcock Mental Health Center 1975-1977; Director of Consultation and Education West Central Mental Health, Hanover, 1977-1980; Director, Counselor, and Faculty-Employee Assistance Program Dartmouth College, since 1979; Assistant Professor Clinical Psychiatry, since 1977; Consultant Health Care Technical Division National Center Health Services, Research and Development, National Institute of Mental Health, 1972-1975; Region 1 Department of Health, Mental Center Site Visits, 1980-1981; Consultant Employee Assistance Programs at Johns Hopkins University, Middlebury College, Mount Holyoke College, Duke University, DePauw University, Anaheim Memorial Hospital, CA, Boise Cascade, and Cold Regions Research Laboratory, Hanover, NH, 1983-1987; and she was the editor of Case Management in Mental Health Services.

Charlotte leaves behind two daughters, Joan Miller (Ed) of Holly Ridge, NC, and Martha J. Perry of New Hampton, NH; two grandsons, Mark Miller, of Holly Ridge, NC, and Matthew Miller, of Pottsville, PA; as well as three great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Charlotte was predeceased by her son, John Perry; brother, Robert; and sisters, Jane and Margaret.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2023, at 11:00 am, at St. Charles Borromeo Church, 300 NH-25, Meredith, NH.
