Obituary

Ann J. Kleponis of South Boston, Massachusetts passed away on October 10, 2023 from natural causes.

Ann was born in South Boston, MA on July 17, 1924 to the late Peter and Elizabeth Kleponis who had both emigrated from Lithuania.

Ann grew up in South Boston and attended South Boston High School. Soon after graduating she answered her calling to enlist in the military during WWII. She was stationed in St. Louis, Missouri as a dental assistant and earned the rank of Technical Sargeant before being honorably discharged at the end of the war. This experience introduced her to the health care field and after the war Ann attended X-Ray Technician School in Boston, graduating with top honors. This propelled her to a successful career starting at Nantucket Cottage Hospital for 2 years and then at New England Baptist Hospital for 38 years.

Ann was one of eight children and was a devoted daughter to her two parents who she lived with in South Boston along with her late sisters, Mary and Joan. Being the only licensed driver of that family group, Ann was very generous with her time taking her family for long drives and vacations. Ann and her sisters had a trailer in Wells, ME for many years that was a favorite summer get away. Ann also traveled the world with her sisters covering most of the US and visiting many foreign countries.

Ann was a devoted life-long communicant of St. Peter’s Parish in South Boston and served for many years as a lector, Eucharistic Minister and volunteer in many capacities.

Ann is survived by her sister Virginia Laufer of Severna Park, MD, and a wealth of loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Mary, Vincent, Albert, Sister Christine, C.J.C., and Joan Kleponis, and Frances Zinka, sisters-in-law Anna and Eleanora Kleponis, and brothers-in-law John Zinka and Chester Laufer, as well as nephew David Kleponis, niece Louise Marinilli, and great nephews Peter Kleponis and Joey Glynn.

The family wishes to give special thanks to the aides and staff at Compass On The Bay in South Boston for the loving care she received in the past year.

Donations may be made to the Lithuanian Apostolate, St. Peter Lithuanian Parish, or the Sisters of Jesus Crucified.

Visiting hours at the Casper Funeral Home, 187 Dorchester Street in South Boston on Friday, October 13th from 3 to 6pm. Funeral Mass on Saturday at 10:30am in St. Peter Lithuanian Church. Followed by interment in New Calvary Cemetery.
