Obituary

Mary Edith (Stewart) Komusin, 86, passed away surrounded by her family on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at The Edgewood Center, Portsmouth NH, where she proudly resided. Mary was born on June 23, 1937 in Glasgow, Scotland, the fourth of five girls, to James and Margaret (Burton) Stewart.

As a child she had an adventurous spirit, this served her well when she traveled by ship to New York City in 1957 for a position as a Nanny. Two years later, she met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Komusin. They were married in August of 1959, started their family on Long Island, and moved to Danville, NH in 1972 where they built their own house and raised their five children.

Mary immersed herself into the Danville community as a Girl Scout leader and founding member of the “Danville Tea Ladies”. She continued to serve the community on various town committees. Through her community connections, she found her position as a “cafeteria lady” in the Timberlane School System.

Mary was a true follower of Christ as an active member of the Danville Baptist Church. She served as a Sunday School teacher, Deaconess, and choir member. She was always there to answer the call whenever help was needed.

Mary and Bob loved camping and were members of the Swinging Puckerbrushers, spending time at their beloved Popham Beach in Maine, and travelling throughout New England, New York, Florida and other parts of the country. After Bob’s passing, Mary continued to travel across the US, Canada & Scotland visiting family.

Mary became a resident of The Edgewood Center in June 2020 and quickly embraced the role of Edgewood Ambassador with her warmth towards staff and residents.

Mary was pre-deceased by her husband Robert and her 4 sisters. She is survived by her children Margaret White (Donald), of Four Oaks, North Carolina; Nancy Lee (Gary), of Exeter, NH; Robert Jr. (Diana), of Sanford, Maine; Penny Sharpe (Ernie) of Derry, NH; and Emily Quitigua of Carmi, Illinois. Mary is also survived by 11 grandsons, 3 granddaughters, 7 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to The Edgewood Center Staff for their kind, compassionate and loving care. Memorial contributions may be made to The Edgewood Center Activities Department, 928 South Street, Portsmouth, NH, 03801.

A celebration of Mary’s life will be held on Saturday November 4, 2023 at 11:00am at the Danville Baptist Church, 226 Main Street, Danville, NH.
