Obituary

STANDISH- Lawrence (Mike) David Mucci, 78, of Standish, peacefully passed away on October 8, 2023, at the Marshwood Center after bravely battling a long illness, surrounded by his loving family.

Born on October 3, 1945, in Westbrook, he was the son of the late Clifford and Irene (Labreque) Mucci. Mike's early years took him from Maine to Ohio in 1954 and then to Massachusetts, but his heart always belonged to Maine, where he returned in 1960. He attended Westbrook and South Portland schools before settling in Standish in 1972.

In the early 1960s, he began his career at Yudy’s Tire, attended Vocational School and eventually became a self-employed auto mechanic. For 12 years, Mike was a devoted member of the Standish Lions Club, where he served as Beano Chairperson and Treasurer, earning the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

Most days, Mike could be found in his garage, tinkering with cars or reading the daily newspaper. He cherished his time riding his four-wheeler and snowmobile and relishing moments spent fishing and playing cards, especially cribbage. Yet, his most cherished moments were those spent with family and friends, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In his early twenties Mike faced some physical challenges. Despite these physical challenges, he consistently persevered. He served as a genuine inspiration to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mike is now reunited with his beloved parents, Clifford and Irene (Labreque) Mucci. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories, survived by his dear brothers, Thomas Mucci and his wife Teresa of Scarborough, and William Mucci of Standish. He is also survived by his daughters, Roxanne Stokes of Greene, Norene and her husband Roger Boucher of Buxton, and his "bonus" daughter, Stephanie Neptune of Standish. Sons, Daniel Hopkins of Gorham and Donald Hopkins of Lithia Springs, GA. He is also remembered by his loving grandchildren: Andrew Starkey of Greene, Kevin Hopkins of Windham, and Nathan Hopkins of Gorham, as well as granddaughters Amanda Starkey of New Gloucester, Cassandra Stokes of Meredith, NH, Ashley and Paige Johnson of Steep Falls, and Darcy Doyle of Scarborough. In addition, he leaves behind 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Please join us in celebrating Lawrence (Mike) David Mucci's life on November 12th, from 10 AM to 2 PM, in the Sebago Lake Room at the Standish Town Hall. Together, we will honor and remember a man who touched the hearts of so many with his kindness and love.
