Obituary

WEBSTER– Eugene J. “Joe” Cyr, 91, died Saturday October 7, 2023 in the Life Care Center of Auburn surrounded by his loving family.

He leaves his wife of 69 years, Lillian M (Lebeau) Cyr; 5 children, Michelle Cove and her significant other Carl Paglione of N. Grosvenordale, CT, Colleen Anderson and her significant other John Beresik of Webster, Jerilyn Wasielewski and her husband Mark of Ellington, CT, Russell Cyr and his wife Renee of Pepperell and Pamela Cyr and her wife Joyce Holupka of Boston; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Dulmaine and her husband Jay of Oxford, Ryan Cove and his wife Tiana of Lake Forest, IL, Kayla Schmitz and her wife Emily of Coral Springs, FL, Erica McIntyre of Granby, Paul Anderson and his wife Jill of Whitinsville, Jeffrey Wasielewski and his significant other Rachel Iwanyszyn of Wilmington, VT, Kristen Harp and her husband Ben of Andover, CT, Zachary Wasielewski of Ellington, CT, Christopher Cyr and his significant other Christopher Haley of Boston, Madeline Cyr and her husband Akhanda Shrestha of Arlington; 7 great grand-children Samantha Holton, Alexander Holten, Ariah “Ellie” Mark, Isabelle Cove, Callen Harp, twins Julian and Desmond Anderson and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his brother, Abel Cyr.

He was born November 18, 1931 in Webster, the son of Jean and Blanche (Phoenix) Cyr, where he was a lifelong resident. He graduated from Bartlett High School and attended Nichols College.

He was a United States Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Cyr worked at Cranston Print Works. He then owned and operated Gene Cyr’s Variety Store, The Fish and Chip Restaurant and Pastime Cafe, which sponsored various sports teams and charitable events over the years.

He was a communicant of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and a life member of the League of Sacred Heart. He played basketball with the town’s Lakers League team and was an avid skier. He enjoyed playing volleyball and horseshoes with his family. He also liked to travel, especially in his motor home.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday, October 17th from the Sitkowski, Malboeuf & Hickey Funeral Home, 340 School St., Webster, with a Mass at 10:30 am in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 16 East Main Street, Webster. Burial will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery with the Webster-Dudley Veterans Council performing the military honors. Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on October 16, 2023 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations in his name can be made to the Alzheimer’s Support Network, 10 Mill Street, Dudley, MA 01571.
