HOLLIS- Margaret Ruth Sturgis, age 83, of Hollis, passed away on Oct. 4, 2023.
She was born in Portland on Jan. 20, 1940, a child of the late Arthur and Jane (Starling) Stack.
After graduating from high school, Margaret graduated from the University of Maine, Gorham Teacher’s College and went on to earn her master’s degree.
Margaret was a dedicated long-time educator who taught at George E. Jack School, S.D. Hanson School, Frank Jewett, and Bonny Eagle Middle School.
She enjoyed dancing, movies and plays, camping, and being with her children and grandchildren.
She will always be remembered for her passion for teaching and willingness to help others.
Margaret is survived by her husband of nearly 63 years of marriage- Frank Sturgis of Hollis; her four children; four siblings; and her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday Oct. 12th from 5 – 7 PM at the Chad E. Poitras Cremation and Funeral Service Chapel, 498 Long Plains Road (Rt. 22) in Buxton. A funeral service will be held on Friday at the funeral home at 2 PM. Burial will follow at Dow’s Corner Cemetery in Standish.
