D. Vernon Camp, 80, of Byron passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023, at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon. His funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, October 13, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals with the Rev. Micah Carr officiating. Mr. Camp will be laid to rest at a later date in McCaysville, Georgia near Blue Ridge. The family will receive friends on Friday, October 13, 2023, in the Chapel of Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals from 12:30 p.m. until the hour of the service.
Born July 26, 1943, in Scooterville (Worth County), Mr. Camp was the son of the late Ollie V. Camp and Leotis Scoggins Camp. He served in the Florida and Tennessee National Guard while attending college and graduated from Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee in 1971. He worked for two decades as the sales manager /marketing manager for Lifeway Christian Resources Conference Center in Ridgecrest, North Carolina. He later served as the minister of Education in various churches and served as a deacon throughout his life. He served as a Gideon and was currently a member of Peachtree Baptist Church in Byron, GA.
Mr. Camp is survived by his wife, Helen Compton Camp of Byron, GA; two daughters, Stephanie (Russ) Daniel of Charlotte, NC and Lori (Mathew) Taitt of Bowling Green, KY; one brother Alfred W(Becky) Camp of Abilene, TX; one sister Cindy (Jim) Taylor of Hawkinsville, GA; one granddaughter Brittany (Logan) Rich; one grandson Logan Martin; and one Great-grandson, Houston Thomas Rich.
In lieu of flowers, the family is providing these organizations for donations: Gideon International, Samaritan's Purse, or American Cancer Society.
