Mary A. (McBride) Wilkins, a resident of Charlestown and formerly of York, Maine, entered into eternal life suddenly on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at home. She was 89 years of age.
Mary was born in Boston on May 17, 1934. She was the daughter of John and Julia (Fitzsimmons) McBride. She grew up with her 5 siblings in Brighton. She attended St. Columbkille grammar and high school.
She received a bachelor’s degree in education from Boston State Teacher's College. She was a kindergarten teacher, homemaker, and employee of the Archdiocese of Boston.
After retiring, Mary and Dick moved to York, Maine. She enjoyed her retirement by painting watercolors. She always looked forward to visits from her kids and grandkids and being able to cook for everyone and dominate at Scrabble.
Mary is the loving wife of 57 years to Richard “Dick” Wilkins. She is the devoted mother of Billy of Melrose, Nan of Charlestown, Greg of Danville, Indiana, Clare of Charlestown, and the late Christopher E. Wilkins. She is the beloved Nana to Olivia, Aidan, Quinn, and Collin. She is also the mother-in-law of Sandy and Teresa. She is the cherished sister of Pauline Molinari of Plymouth, MA and the late Johnny, Billy, Tommy, and Joey McBride. She is also survived by a plethora of nieces and nephews.
Relatives & friends are invited to attend Mary's visiting hours on Thursday morning, October 12, 2023, from 9:30 A.M. to 11:30 A.M. in The Carr Funeral Home 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown at 12 Noon. Her burial will be at Mt. Benedict Cemetery in West Roxbury.
