Maria Elena McGahan (Vazquez), 82, entered eternal life on October 6th, 2023, after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family and the wonderful caregivers at Southwood Nursing Home in Norwell, MA.
Maria was born on October 11, 1940, in Fajardo, Puerto Rico to the late Israel Vazquez & Georgina Lopez-Rios. She was the sister to Ana Maria Vazquez-Lopez, the late Roberto, Rudolfo and Libertab . Maria grew up in Fajardo, Puerto Rico, where she was raised and educated by many loving sisters of the Los Angeles Custodios in San Juan.
She came to the U.S in April of 1964. She was a longtime resident of Holbrook, MA where she met many longtime friends. She later relocated to East Bridgewater, MA.
She was a homemaker who loved sewing, crocheting, knitting, bingo, camping, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Maria was also the owner of an in-home daycare that she took great pride in.
Devoted mother to the late David J. McGahan and his wife Michelle, Daniel F. McGahan and his wife Sheila, Joseph W. McGahan and his longtime girlfriend Jennifer Kneeland, and Michelle Rocheleau and her husband David. Loving grandmother to Krystal, Amanda, Alexander, David, Nicholas, Joseph and William. Great grandmother of five and aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, MA on Tuesday, October 10, 2023, from 4-7pm with a service to follow at 7pm.
