Mary E. Smith, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life suddenly on Friday, October 6, 2023 at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. She was 60 years of age.
Mary was born in Boston on January 20, 1963, a daughter of the late Robert E. Smith and Florence (Barker) Smith. She grew up in Charlestown and attended Immaculate Conception Parochial School in Everett and graduated from Julie Billiard High School in the North End of Boston. Mary worked as a mail handler for the United States Postal Service for 25 years at the South Postal Annex in South Boston. She loved shopping, but her most enjoyment in her life was all the special moments she shared with her son Michael and Kristen and especially her granddaughter Rylan.
Mary is the devoted mother of Michael R. O'Neil and his companion Kristen Moulton. She is the loving Nana Mary of Rylan O'Neil. She is the beloved sister of Virginia Buckley and her husband Kevin, Bobby Smith and his wife Mary, Tommy Smith and the late Helen Fidler and her surviving husband John, and the late Jean McLaughlin and her late husband Dennis. She is also survived by her many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her son Michael's father, Michael P. O'Neil.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Mary's Funeral on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at 9 A.M. from The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown, followed by her Funeral Mass at 10 A.M. in St. Mary's Church, 55 Warren St. Charlestown. Her burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett. Her visiting hours will be held on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 from 3 P.M. to 7 P.M. in the funeral home.
