Obituary

LOWELL—Myrtle G. (Gale) Owens, 89 years old, a longtime resident of Lowell, died Friday afternoon at Saints Memorial Medical Center. She was the wife of the late James Williamson and the late Frank Owens.

She was born in Boston, on June 5, 1917, a daughter of the late Joseph and Ethel (Peart) Gale, and was a graduate of the Newton Public School System, Morgan State College, in Baltimore, MD.

Mrs. Owens had been employed as a Sample Stitcher by Berkshire Dress Company, in Malden, the Lowell Dress Company at the Boott Mills, in Lowell. She was a member of the Home League of the Salvation Army, the N.A.A.C.P., and the Afro-American Council. After her retirement, she was a volunteer outreach worker for C.T.I., in Lowell.

She is survived by a close friend: Mary Scott Mitchell, of Lowell; and many other friends in the Lowell area.

Friends may call from 9 to 10 AM Tuesday, June 27th, at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 Nesmith Street, (Rte. 38). Her Funeral Service to follow at the funeral home. Burial in the Westlawn Cemetery.
