Giannino R. Galante, 92

Dateline: Mansfield, MA

Giannino R “John” Galante, age 92, a resident of the Village at Willow Crossings in Mansfield, formerly of Arlington passed away peacefully, in the presence of his loving family on Wednesday, October 4, 2023. He was the beloved husband of Jennie J. (Pietropaolo) Galante, to whom he was wed for fifty-eight years.

Born in Filetto, Italy on March 2, 1931, he was a loving son of the late Antonio and Maria (DiRico) Galante.

Giannino grew up and was educated in Italy and when 17 years old, he moved to Argentina where he lived for thirteen years. At the age of 30, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Watertown with his parents.

Prior to retiring, Mr. Galante worked as a mason for the Bricklayers & Allied Craftsmen Union Local 3. He had made his home in Mansfield for the past six years and was a former longtime resident of Arlington. While living in Mansfield, he was a communicant of Saint Mary’s Church and when residing in Arlington, was a parishioner of the former Saint James Church.

John was always happiest when surrounded by his family, grandchildren and sitting down to a good meal. He was a very proud man who loved his family dearly and the lifelong accomplishments and memories he created. John was an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the wealth of his vegetables with family and friends. He proudly built his own home in Arlington, made his own wine, enjoyed pheasant hunting and could speak Italian, Spanish and English. Following retirement, John became an avid fan of World Cup Soccer, Formular1 Racing and the Judge Judy Show.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his devoted daughters Maria C. Jingozian and her husband Robert of Walpole and Lisa Pothier and her husband Gordon of Foxborough. He was the cherished Papa of Erica, John, Jenna, Ava and Dylan. He was the dear brother of Lidia Cutone and her husband Mario of Watertown and the late Rocco Galante, Graziano Galante, Nicola Galante and Gino Galante. He is also survived by his many much-loved nieces and nephews.

His Funeral Mass, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on Monday, October 9th at 10:00 A.M. in Saint Mary’s Church, 330 Pratt Street (Route 106) Mansfield. Burial will be held on Tuesday, October 10th at 11:00 A.M. at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford.
