McDERMOTT, Herbert F. Age 92 of Norwood, formerly of West Roxbury, passed away on October 3, 2023. Beloved husband of the late Mary M. (Dirrane) McDermott.
Devoted father of Marie Fotos and her husband Stephen of Peabody, Kevin and his wife Bridget of Franklin, Sean B. and his wife Liz of Norwood, and the late Herbert T. and Gerard. Dear brother of the late William, Joseph, Robert, and Walter McDermott, Dorothy and Kay Workman, and Carole Freck. Loving “Dado” of Siobhan, Sean K., Colleen, Erin, Maggie, and Brendan. Great-grandfather of Jackson and Parker. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Herbert was a past President of The Boston Irish Social Club, a volunteer for The Society of African Missions (SMA) Fathers, an usher for many years at St. Theresa of Avila Church, and a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus Council. He also loved traveling and all Boston sports teams. Herbert served his country in the Navy during the Korean War as a Quartermaster on the USS Tripoli.
Funeral from the William J. Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre Street, West Roxbury, on Saturday, October 7th at 10:00am. Followed by Funeral Mass in St. Theresa of Avila Church, 2078 Centre Street.
