John R. O’Malley, 81, of Medway, died peacefully on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was the beloved husband of Joanne R. (Riley) O’Malley for 57 years.
Born in Boston on April 18, 1942, he was the son of the late Mathias T. and Maryalice (Devitt) O’Malley.
John was a resident of Medway for the past 54 years. He graduated from Boston English High School and Northeastern University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in History.
John worked in warehouse management at Spets Assoc. in Whitinsville for many years. After retirement, he worked as a school bus driver in the towns of Framingham and Milford.
While in high school, John paddled the Swan Boats on the Boston Common and also worked at Kennedy Butter and Eggs.
John enjoyed woodworking, was a voracious reader, volunteered at the Medway Library and of course he loved his Celtics.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons Jack O’Malley and his wife Maureen of Oak Bluffs and Tom O’Malley of Burrillville, RI. He was the father-in-law of the late Patricia O’Malley.
He is also survived by his brother George O’Malley of Yarmouth, his sister Maureen Rodriguez of Roslindale, eight grandchildren, one great-granddaughter and many nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the late Mathias and Joseph O’Malley.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours on Friday, October 6 from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. in the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (ginleyfuneralhomes.com) followed by a funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church, 151 Village St. in Medway at 11 a.m.
Burial will take place at Holyhood Cemetery in Brookline at a later date.
