Obituary

Margaret “Peggy” Lucy Burns was a public servant, a devout Catholic, an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, a strong and independent woman, but most importantly, a deeply devoted aunt. She passed away on Monday, October 2, 2023 at the age of 88.

She was born to Vernon and Catherine Burns on April 24, 1935. After graduating from St. Stephen’s High School, Peggy worked as a secretary in Washington D.C. before beginning a career at Worcester City Hall that spanned over 30 years.

Peggy enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her many nieces and nephews. She will be remembered by them for her positivity and easy laugh, as well as her unwavering support for all those she loved. She cared deeply about politics, and could often be found volunteering for a campaign or helping out at the polls on election day. She also loved animals, including her pets, and spent time volunteering at the local Audubon society. Peggy was truly a woman for others.

Peggy will be deeply missed by her niece, Mary Miskinis, and nephews, Bill and Jack Miskinis, along with her many great-and great-great nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister, Maureen Miskinis, and her brother, Patrick Burns.

Her family would like to extend a special thank you to the VNA Hospice staff for their attentive care of Peggy in her final days. Her burial will be private. O'CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue is assisting the family with arrangements.
