David was born and raised in Quincy, Mass. He graduated from Quincy High School. He earned an Associate's degree from Mass Bay Community College, and both a Bachelor's and a Master’s from Boston University.
When computers came to the workplace, David turned his mathematics education into a career as a programmer/analyst. At the time of his passing, David was retired.
Examples of David's many interests include a deep love of classical music and opera. He sang solos in a church choir. His home study projects included calculus and several languages. An important interest in his life was playing chess. He played in tournaments, belonged to an online chess group, and read books and articles on the subject.
He is survived by his wife, Linda, and daughter, Rebecca. His immediate family circles includes: two sisters, Ilona Ferrara and Edith Garrant, and two brothers, Alan Ames and Roger Ames, and one cousin, Susan Rolund.
