MaryLou (Hersey) Coveney, 89, of Worcester, MA passed away peacefully on Monday July 10, 2023 of natural causes, with her husband David by her side.
She is survived by her loving family. Her husband of 57 years, David J. Coveney. Son Michael D. and his wife Karen of Shrewsbury. Son Thomas P. and his wife Fernanda of Florida. Her granddaughter Kathryn Mary Coveney of Shrewsbury. Her grandsons Brendan M.
and Collin J. Coveney of Shrewsbury. Her siblings and their spouses: Harold G. Jr. “Bub” and Helen Hersey, Sally (Hersey) and Roland Chenard, Stanley and Gale Hersey, James and Madge Hersey. Many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was pre-deceased by her siblings
Elizabeth “Sunny” Fletcher (Hersey) and William “Billy” Hersey. She was the daughter of the late Harold G. and Laura (Drew) Hersey, and stepmother, Helen (Brown) Hersey.
MaryLou was born was born on June 27, 1934 in Franklin, New Hampshire. She grew up in the Dover and Wolfeboro area with her family. She graduated from Dover High class of 1952. She earned her RN from Lynn Hospital school of Nursing in 1955. She loved attending
nursing school and met many lifelong friends while becoming a registered nurse. MaryLou met her husband David in Boston. They lived in Dorchester for many years, raising their two sons, and making many lifelong friends and memories. While busy raising her
sons she worked as a registered nurse at Carney Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She retired to the Lakes Region in New Hampshire with her husband David, but still worked part time as a school nurse. She always had a wonderful vegetable and flower
garden. The family enjoyed visiting with her Michigan Cousins in the Fall. She spent the winter months cross-country skiing and then driving south to Florida to get warm and look for shells on the beach, always visiting friends and family along the way. MaryLou
had an infectious laugh and would usually be the life of any party, including New Years Day on the Cape, St. Patrick’s Day in Southie, Dorchester Day at her home, summer vacations at Sandy Point in Alton, NH, Cousins Party in the Fall and Thanksgiving at the
Farm in NH. She had traveled to Europe and Hawaii with her nursing school friends and kept in touch with them for many years after retirement. MaryLou adored every minute spent with her family, especially her grandchildren, and she will be remembered dearly
for all the laughs. In her later years, she and David moved back to Massachusetts to be closer to their family and resided at the Colony III Retirement Home in Worcester where she made many new friends.
A graveside memorial service will be held on October 16, 2023 at 2:00pm at the Lakeview Cemetery in Wolfeboro, NH. All are invited to attend.
