Ruth E. (Leemhuis) Johnson 87, a long-time resident of Hanson, died Saturday September 30, at the Pat Roach Hospice Home in Hingham. She was the beloved wife of the late P. Roger Johnson.
Born in Pittsfield and raised in Lenox she was the daughter of the late Walter and Mabel Leemhuis and a graduate of Lenox High, Class of 1954.
Ruth furthered her education, graduating from the former Peter Bent Brigham School of Nursing in 1957 and attaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Boston University in 1961. She had worked many years as a Registered Nurse in a private physician’s office, and was a long-standing member of the Massachusetts Nurses Association and the Visiting Nurses Association of Hanson.
Ruth had been a resident of Hanson since 1965 where she and her husband Roger raised their two children. As an active member of the Hanson community, she had served as a Girl Scout Leader and was a member of the First Congregation Church.
Ruth loved the beach and the mountains and will be remembered for her strong faith.
She is survived by her children Charlotte A. Johnson of Hanson and R. Paul Johnson of Burlington. She is also survived by her grandchildren E. Lars Johnson, Alexandra Johnson, and Annika G. Johnson.
Family and friends are invited to attend her internment on Wednesday October 4 at 9 AM in the South Easton Cemetery, Rte. 138, Easton and her funeral service following at 11 AM in the First Congregational Church, 639 High Street, Hanson, MA 02341.
