LYMAN- George Joseph Fournier, age 74, passed away on September 29, 2023, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Berlin, NH, on February 3, 1949, the son of the late Joseph and Dora Fournier. He leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and countless cherished memories.
From a young age, he exhibited an insatiable curiosity for truck driving, getting up very early in the morning to deliver bread with his father. This ultimately led to a fulfilling and successful career in the transportation industry as a truck driver. Throughout the years, he worked for various companies, the longest being St. Johnsbury Trucking Company. He also was a member of the Teamsters and worked for them as a shop steward. George served in the Army National Guard and was also a member of the American Legion.
Outside of his professional life, George was a member of the Good Shepherd Parish and was known for his unwavering commitment to family and friends. He was a loving spouse, parent, and sibling, always there to offer support, guidance, and a shoulder to lean on. His warmth and compassion touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
George's passion extended beyond his work and family. He had a deep love for playing and coaching hockey, hunting, fishing, dogs, and spending time with family and friends on Lake Umbagog and Bunganut Lake. He enjoyed puttering around on his tractor and riding/driving/caring for his horses, and he could often be found spending time at the barn with Annie, his horse.
George is survived by his beloved wife- Leona (Vaillancourt) Fournier; his children- Christopher Fournier and his wife Kristine of Monmouth, ME, Amy Thompson and her husband Christopher of Milton, NH, Scott Fournier and his wife Jennifer of Arundel, ME; his sisters- Denise Godbout of Gorham, NH, Helene Brodeur of Summerfield, NC, and Anne Delisle of Berlin, NH; 7 Grandchildren- Noah, Maya, Nicholas, Ian, Julia, Sara, and Summer. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched throughout his lifetime.
A funeral service to celebrate George's life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 13, at the Most Holy Trinity Church in Saco, Maine, followed by a graveside service at Laurel Hill Cemetery in Saco, Maine. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in George's memory to an animal rescue of your choice.
George's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
