Peter A. Melo 87, of Franklin, passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, Friday September 29, 2023 at Milford Regional Medical Center, following an illness.
Born April 15, 1936, in Franklin, a son of the late Frank and Josephine (Sesito) Melo, he was a lifelong Franklin resident.
Upon his graduation from Franklin High School, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, stationed in France, he attained the rank of Airman First Class. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal and was honorably discharged in September 1958.
Following his service, he returned to Franklin and started working for the United States Postal Service in Franklin. Peter retired after more than 37 years as a letter carrier.
An avid golfer, Peter accomplished 3 holes-in-one, and enjoyed bowling, spending time with his family, grandchildren and playing pinochle.
He was a Life Member of the Franklin Lodge of Elks, a member of the National Association of Letter carriers and a communicant of St. Mary’s Church, Franklin.
Peter is survived by his daughters, Susan “Sue Ellen” Melo of Louisville, Kentucky and Deborah A. Lucas and her husband Paul of Franklin, a sister Catherine Gianetti of Franklin and his cherished grandchildren, Danielle Marguerite Hare & Nicholas Gregory Hare both of Quincy.
He was the brother of the late, Mary DeLucia, Rose Baldassari, Joseph, Frank, Nicholas, John and Samuel Melo.
He will be fondly remembered and missed by those he loved.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his funeral Thursday October 5th, at 9AM from the Charles F. Oteri and Son Franklin Funeral Home 33 Cottage St. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Mary's Church, Franklin at 10AM.
Interment with military honors will follow at the parish cemetery.
Calling hours are Wednesday Oct. 4th, from 4-6PM.
