Obituary

Claude Jean Elie Ranoux, M.D., Ph.D., age 72, a longtime resident of Winchester, passed away on September 25, 2023. Born in Paris, France, Claude was the son of the late Paul and Augustine (Rebecchi) Ranoux.

Dr. Ranoux was raised and educated in Paris. He graduated with his M.D. in 1979 from the University of Medicine Cochin in Paris and earned a Ph.D. from the University of Kremlin Bicetre in Paris in 1996. From 1979 to 1988, Dr. Ranoux was an Assistant Professor at Port Royal University in Paris.

In 1988, he moved to the USA with his family to continue practicing medicine as Director of the IVF and Andrology Laboratory at Beth Israel Hospital in Boston and continued to serve in his profession in many Massachusetts hospitals. Throughout his career, from 1979-1997, Dr. Ranoux was recognized numerous times with worldwide awards and honors for his work in vitro fertilization.

In 1996 he founded and served as Chairman and CEO of Biofertec Company, which developed new technologies for manufacturing fertility products. In 2015 he invented INVOcell technology that was FDA approved in 2015. The INVOcell Culture Device is used in preparing, holding, and transferring human gametes or embryos during In Vitro Fertilization/Intravaginal Culture (IVF/IVC) and Intra-cytoplasmic Sperm Injection Fertilization/Intravaginal Culture (ICSI/IVC) procedures.

In addition to his many professional accomplishments, Dr. Ranoux is lovingly remembered by his family for his huge heart, dedication to his family and friends, his intoxicating laugh and endless dad jokes.

In his spare time, Claude made electrical airplane models, enjoyed watching and going to sports and held his pilot’s license. He will be dearly missed by his entire family, many friends and colleagues.

Dr. Ranoux is lovingly survived by his children: Aude Banicki and her husband JJ, Charlotte Gear and husband Kerry, Francois Ranoux and his wife Jessie, Eglantine Ranoux and husband Tom; and five grandsons: Ethan, James and Joseph Gear, Jack and Sam Renau. Claude was the brother of the late Dominique and Michel, and the former husband of Brigitte Murset-Ranoux.
