Obituary

Bernard “Bernie” Tessier, 84, formerly of 577 So. Main St., Manchester, died August 17, 2002, at Harborside Health Care Center in Bedford.

Born in Manchester, October 20, 1917, he was the son of Alonzo and Bernadette (Durand) Tessier. He was a lifelong resident of this city.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served with the 11th Airborne Division in the Philippines from 1941 to 1945. He was the recipient of several commendations including the Purple Heart.

During the 1950’s he and his brother, the late Rene Tessier, operated Tessier Brothers Store, formerly of Canal St. in Manchester. He later worked as a civil service employee for the U.S.A.F. at Grenier Field and the New Boston Air Force Station for 28 years until his retirement in 1980.

Mr. Tessier was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans, and a member of Jutras Post.

Bernie was devoted to his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

He was married 50 years to Lucienne (Chaput) Tessier, who died in 1996.

Family members include a son, Daniel B. Tessier and his wife Dorothy, of Rockport, MA; a daughter, Louise Boisvert and her fiance Alex Reid, of Plymouth, MA; 3 grandsons, Adam Tessier, Joel Boisvert and Dylan Boisvert; a sister, Rachel Cassidy of Goffstown; many nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial was celebrated Wednesday August 21, 2002 in Sacred Heart Church. Burial was in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
