Mary Amos Barnett, 67, of Prosser, passed away into the arms of Jesus at her home on
September 18, 2023.
The oldest of five children, Mary was born on June 2, 1956 to Robert and Grace (Martin) Amos
in Indianapolis, Indiana where she was raised and educated. She then went on to graduate
from the secretarial program at Ball State University. Mary worked at a couple different law
firms after graduating college, then moved on to work for Eli Lilly for ten years alongside her
father and siblings. Mary married Douglas “Brent” Barnett on May 26, 1990 in Coeur d’Alene,
Idaho at “The Hitching Post.” The couple made their home in Olympia for two years as she
worked for the Tourism Department until they moved to Kennewick. Brent and Mary then moved
to Prosser in 1993, two months before the birth of their first child, Daniel. Their daughter
Christina was born in 1997.
Mary loved her kids, her cats, her job as the office manager at the Port of Grandview for the
past 7 years, and spending time with her close friends. She spent many years volunteering in
the Sunnyside Christian School library, which she enjoyed immensely. Mary was also a longtime member of the Grandview Church of the Nazarene, and for several years she and her husband taught the three year old Sunday school class.
She was a wealth of knowledge in regards to flowers, as she worked at a nursery during her
early married years. During the course of Mary’s life, she traveled all over the country, accruing
many fond memories and stories. Mary loved going to concerts, watching old movies, reading,
shopping, and spending time with family. She was truly the best person to go on any sort of trip,
excursion, errand, or event with. Mary was the most kind, generous friend anyone could have.
She put others before herself and was always thinking of ways to bless others and make them
feel included. Her love and kindness were known to all who encountered her.
“Jeri” as her family knew her is survived by her son, Daniel Barnett of New York and her
daughter, Christina Jones and her husband, Tristen of Prosser; brothers, Mike (Carol) Amos and Joe Amos all of Indianapolis; sisters, Tamara (Dave) Zavela of Bradenton, Florida and Carol (Michael) Lathrop of Fort Myers, Florida; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was
preceded in death by her parents and husband, Brent, on January 17, 2009.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on October 7th, 2023 at the Grandview Church of the Nazarene, 500 North Elm Street in Grandview. You may share a memory or condolence at
