Ferol Colleen Riggs
Ferol Colleen Riggs (89) of Prosser, WA, entered into the arms of her Lord and Savior
on September 22, 2023, at Spokane Hospice House.
Born on February 15, 1934, in Sunnyside, WA, she was the youngest child of Eulla and
Samuel Shaw. She attended her school years in Sunnyside, graduating in 1952.
Ferol met her future husband, Dick Riggs, while out walking with a friend. She spotted
a handsome fellow riding a horse and the rest, as they say, was history. They were
married on November 25, 1951.
In 1957 the young couple moved to a small farm in Prosser, WA. Here they would raise
their growing family of 4 children.
Ferol worked at Montgomery Ward, J.C. Penney and the Benton County Auditor’s office
(where she retired), all in Prosser.
Ferol took great delight in flowers and planted them wherever she could find an
available spot to tuck them in.
She was a faithful servant of her Lord and attended Friendship Baptist Church of
Prosser.
She loved spending time with her children, Grandchildren and Great-Grandchildren.
Her loyal dog Lucy kept her company throughout her final years.
She was an avid Prosser Mustang, Seahawks football and Gonzaga basketball fan.
Ferol was never known to turn down the offer of a slice of white cake.
Ferol was preceded in death by her husband Richard P. Riggs, her parents, brother
Donald Shaw, sisters, Phyllis Wick, Shirley Whitehead, and Doris Phillips.
Ferol is survived by her children: Mike Riggs (Connie) – Spokane Valley, Dennis Riggs
(Lori) Prosser, Cindy Maurer (Dale) – Spokane, Diane Affholter (Andy) – Zillah
Grandchildren:
Angela Parris (Culley), Amanda Prinz (Corey), Ryan Riggs (Stephanie), Carly Bingle
(Josh), Shelby Young (Nick), Tyler Maurer (Lizzy), Kyle Lusk (Lauren), Casey Lusk
(Shannon)
Great Grandchildren:
Madeline and Olivia Parris, Sera and Ethan Prinz, Paxton and Parker Riggs, Solomon,
Ruth and Ezra Bingle, Elliot, Owen and Dakota Young
A Celebration of Life will be held Friday, October 13th at 12:00 pm at Friendship Baptist
Church located at 1801 Paterson Rd in Prosser.
