Obituary

WATERBORO- Alan Christopher Ames, age 64, passed unexpectedly Tuesday Sept. 26, 2023.
Alan was born in Rockland, Maine on October 2nd, 1958, about 15 minutes before his twin brother Dana.
The first three years of his life were shared with his parents and siblings with his great-grandmother at her old farmhouse in Union, Maine with grandparents and aunts and uncles close by. The family moved to Buxton in 1961. Alan attended grades 1 through 5 at the “old” Buxton Center Elementary School, grade 6 at Hollis Consolidated School, and junior high and high school at Bonny Eagle.
Al started his working career at Forest City Chevrolet in Portland and then onto Frank Galos Chevrolet in Saco for a combined total of over 30 years before starting his own business “Al’s Auto Detailing” at his home in Waterboro. Alan was very creative, this was evident when entering his garage and always seeing something new and unique that he would assemble from something that someone else had discarded. You would always find his friends gathering in his garage watching a race, playing cribbage or just a get together to talk, reminisce and have fun, maybe with a drink or two.
Alan enjoyed watching and going to NASCAR races throughout the years cheering for Dale Sr., Dale Jr., and Danica. Alan used to enjoy going out and found pleasure with the entertainment of a live band and dance floor and would often have a harmonica in his pocket in case he wanted to join in. Alan had a soft and generous soul, often putting other’s needs before his own.
He will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all that had the chance to know him.
Alan is predeceased by his father- Gerald. E. Ames and his mother Norma J. Ames, who he loved dearly; his brother in law- Chuck Hobbs; along with his many dogs that were never far from his side.
He is survived by his wife Karen of 23 years; his son- Michael Ames and his fiancée Mairi Marning of Franklin, Maine; his first wife Angela Sargent of Sullivan, Maine; step daughters- Niki Foss of Sullivan, Maine and Tammy Lynn Brackett of Bingham, Maine; stepson- Nathan Brackett of Saco; five grandchildren- Eamon, Izaiah, Owen, Upton, and Annika; his brother- Dana Ames and his wife Patty of Buxton; his sisters- Cheri Hobbs of Portland and Carla Arnott and her husband Charles of Easton, MD; along with many loving nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday Oct. 4th at 11 AM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Groveville Road, in Buxton Center.
