Arsene G. “Gus” Duval, Jr., 91, of Fairhaven passed away Saturday September 23, 2023 after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Mathra N. (Moquin) Duval.
Born in Fairhaven, the son of the late Arsene G. and Anna (Giasson) Duval, he lived in New Bedford and Fairhaven for most of his life. He was a graduate of Fairhaven High School and the University of Rhode Island.
Gus was a pharmacist who owned and operated the Baylies Square Pharmacy for many years.
He enjoyed golfing, playing cribbage, gardening, watching old movies, and following all of the Boston sports teams.
During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Air Force.
He is survived by his children, Denise Gillis, Jackie Cote and her husband J.P., Andrea Oliver and her husband Jeff, Mimi Bateman, and Tommy Duval and his wife Maria; his siblings, Claire Carter and Dennis Duval and his wife Aline; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Marcelle Lambert, his son-in-law, Bill Gillis, and his siblings, Gertrude Duval, Eugene Duval, Pauline Keating, Edward Duval, and Madeleine Duval.
His funeral will be held on Thursday September 28th at 9 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, followed by his Funeral Mass at St. Francis Xavier Church, Acushnet at 10 AM. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday September 27th from 4-7 PM.
