Dimitrios Skritakis, 86, of Worcester died on Saturday, September 23, 2023 in St. Vincent’s Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Soultana (Yiantsidis) Skritakis; his two sons, Evangelos Skritakis and his wife, Maria of Shrewsbury, and George Skritakis of Worcester; three very special grandchildren, Demetrios and his wife, Meaghan, Pantos, and Soultana-Konstantina Skritakis; his siblings, Anastasia Skritakis of Hrisohorafa, Greece, Soultana and her husband, Ioannis Dinkas of Iraklia, Greece, Konstantinos Skritakis and his wife, Chrysoula of Hrisohorafa, Greece, and Angeliki and her husband Dimitris Zaharakis of Larissa, Greece; and several brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, many nephews, nieces, and extended family both here in the United States and in Greece.
He was born in Hrisohorafa, Greece, the son of Evangelos and Maria (Karastougiannis) Skritakis, and he immigrated to the United States in December of 1970. In Greece, he worked many years tending to his family’s farmlands. While in the United States, he held several jobs and his last tenured employment was with Rand Whitney Corporation in Worcester, where he worked for over 29 years.
Dimitrios was a parishioner of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral and an avid member of the Cultural Center Hrisohorafiton Alexander the Great, where he spent much time and socialized with family and friends. He traveled back to Greece several times over his life to spend time with his siblings. He was an enthusiastic soccer fan and enjoyed watching all the matches on Antenna TV and an avid gardener, who would always share the bounty with family, friends, and neighbors. Most importantly, he enjoyed seeing his grandchildren and relishing in their successes.
His funeral is Monday, October 2nd from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service at 11:00 a.m. in St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell Street. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery. His visitation will be held on Monday, October 2nd from 9:30 until 10:30 a.m. in the funeral home.
