Marcia M. Mahoney of San Francisco, California, died on September 14, 2023 in Oakland, CA after a long illness. She was 86.
Marcia was born on July 21, 1937 to the late Dr. John F. Mahoney and Carol W. (Murphy) Mahoney. She graduated from Holy Family High School and trained as a nurse at St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Boston. As a newly minted registered nurse, she traveled to San Francisco and worked at St. Joseph's, Marshall Hale and California Pacific Hospitals, handling early critical care units and other areas of nursing until she retired in 2002.
Marcia loved music and was able to work as a nurse for Davies Hall and the San Francisco Opera House in her free time.
She was proud to have cared for Vietnamese babies in Operation Babylift in 1975. She also volunteered her services for many years at St. Anne's Home.
Marcia loved to travel, making trips back to New Bedford and the East Coast, all over California and the West Coast, and a number of trips to European destinations.
She is survived by her nieces, Cristina H. Landskroner and Shelia K. Berman and Nephew, Sean F. Kelleher and their families.
At her request, her funeral service and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, a contribution may be made to San Francisco Symphony Youth Orchestra, Davies Symphony Hall, 201 Van Ness Avenue, San Francisco, CA 94102.
She was predeceased by her brother John F. Mahoney and sisters Carol G. Kelleher and Joan E. Hicks.
