Obituary

Fernando DaSilva, 87, passed away peacefully with his family by his side at High Pointe House in Haverhill after a brief illness. He was the widower of the late Alda (Roque) DaSilva who passed away in October of 1984.

He was born on May 14, 1936 in Graciosa, Azores, Portugal and was a son of the late Marcelino DaSilva and the late Rita (Dias) DaSilva. He came to the United States in 1958, settling in Lowell’s Back Central Neighborhood where he lived for the rest of his life.


He worked as a machine operator for 22 years with Wannalancit Textiles and eventually retired from Prince Spaghetti after 18 years there in 2006. He was a member of the Portuguese American Center, “The Blues Club” and The Holy Ghost Society. He was a lifelong communicant of St. Anthony’s Church.

Fernando enjoyed spending time with his family, especially at family dinners. He also was an avid gardener, tending to his grapevines and making his own wine in the past. He was an ardent supporter of FC Porto and was also a fan of the New England Patriots. Above all though, he was a huge fan of professional wrestling and would never miss a show, watching even until his final days.

He is survived by his son, John F. Silva and his wife, Lynne, of Lowell, his 3 grandchildren by whom he was lovingly referred to as “Avo” Michael Silva and his fiance, Devin Fitzgerald, of San Diego, CA, Matthew SIlva and his wife, Kelsey, of Methuen, Megan Cashin and her husband, Kevin, of Nashua, NH, his great grandchildren, Matty Jr., Blake, Liam and another great grandchild on the way.

He is also survived by his siblings, Idalina Bagaco of Canada and Theresa Silva of Lowell.

He was predeceased by his siblings.

On Tuesday, September 26, 2023 all are welcome to attend his calling hours from 10 a.m.-12 noon at McDonough Funeral Home, 14 Highland Street, Lowell 978-458-6816. His funeral service will take place in the funeral home at 12 noon followed by procession to St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell for burial.
