Obituary

Deborah L. Shaughnessy, 56, of Whitman passed away Wednesday September 20, 2023 from complications of colon cancer.

Born in Stoughton, MA on April 28, 1967. She was the beloved daughter of George and Donna (Smith) Shaughnessy. Loving wife of Richard M. Coraine and loving stepmom of five stepchildren. She is the niece of Stephen and Susan Smith and cousin to Tyler Smith of North Andover, MA. Also, niece of the late Robert Shaughnessy of Hanover, MA. Also, his wife Carleen Shaughnessy and niece to the late Barbara and Pat O’Malley. Beloved granddaughter of the late B.G and Charolotte Smith of Bridgewater and late George and Anna Shaughnessy of Dorchester. Cousin to Katy and Rob Davis, Bobby and Val Shaughnessy, Kara Cash, Megan and Gary Twombly, Deidre and Adam Bartlett. Also, Susan O’Malley, Michael O’Malley, Kerry and Paul Tolus and Joey and Lisa O’Malley and all their children.

Deb was an avid horseback rider and competition in show jumping. Loved spending time at her grandparent’s farm and helping with the race horses and receiving a few over the years to show at local events with mom as a van driver and hot walker. She also loved playing golf with her husband Rick and her many friends. Her love of sports cars was shown by her different mustangs over the years. She was inventory control manager at H.P. Hood in Milton and later found her calling as senior bartender at Luci’s Pizza Bar of Timber Lane in Abington. Also, events at the Mockingbird in East Bridgewater.

She was a 1985 graduate of Whitman Hanson Regional High School and a graduate of Aquinas College in Milton, MA.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visiting hours Sunday September 24 from 3:00-6:00 PM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. A funeral service will be held on Monday September 25 in the funeral chapel at 10:00 AM, with a burial to follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Bereavement will be at Luci’s Pizza Bar at 460 Bedford St., Rte. 18, Abington.

In lieu flowers donations may be made to the Greene Cancer Center, 25 Libby St., Brockton, MA 02302. As well as Old Friends, Inc.,1814 Paynes Depot Road, Georgetown, KY 40324.

A thoroughbred retirement home started by Michael Blowen and his wife Diane. Michael had been a film critic. For the Globe and followed his dream of helping retired race horses live out their lives thoroughly loved and taken care of.
