Paul B. Amirault, age 86 of Revere, formerly of Norton, MA, passed away peacefully in his sleep and surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, September 21, 2023.
Born in Cambridge, MA, on June 29, 1937, he was the son of the late Catherine Ann (LeBlanc) Amirault and the late Bradford Peter Amirault of Nova Scotia.
Paul grew up in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston and was a graduate of St. Ann’s grade school and St. Mary’s High School in Brookline. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering from Northeastern University in 1959. While at Northeastern, Paul participated in the Army Reserve Officers' Training Corps and was later commissioned in the U.S. Army. Paul was in the U.S. Army from 1960-1970 and served as a Captain in Vietnam from 1968-1969. A lover of music his entire life, he played the trumpet through high school and college and participated in the Army ROTC band, and decades later he joined the Crusaders Senior Drum and Bugle Corps of Boston.
Paul worked as an electrical engineer at Di/An Controls, Inc, Raytheon, Hanscom Air Force Base for a variety of contractors including SSAI, Horizons Technology, Inc, SenCom Corp, and P3I, Polaroid, and most recently was a Certified Professional Property Manager at Draper Labs.
Paul was a very active member of the American Legion in Revere and VFW in Melrose where he held the position of Adjutant at Lt. Norman Prince Post #1506. Paul had many interests including Toastmasters, wood carving, leather working, painting, kayaking, canoeing, and enjoying nature. Before living in Revere, Paul was a former resident of Wareham, and previously made his home in Norton where he co-owned Poolside Ceramics Studio with the late Carol J. Amirault, his wife of 53 years.
Paul is survived by his devoted children: Patricia Metzger and her husband Brian of North Attleboro, Paul Amirault and his partner James Young of West Hollywood, CA, Michael Amirault and his wife Gloria of Lexington, Laura Kischitz and her husband Andy of Bolton, and Christine Bride and her husband Joseph of San Diego, CA. He was the brother of the late F. Richard Amirault, J. Donald Amirault, and Gerald S. Amirault. He is also survived by his cherished 11 grandchildren: Brad and Drew Metzger, Michael, David, Douglas, and Jonathan Amirault, Stephanie White, Alex and Nick Kischitz, and Shannon and Catie Bride, and great grandchildren: Evelyn and Jackson Slowinski, and Magnolia and Meadow Metzger. He was the beloved grandfather of the late Christopher Amirault.
His funeral service, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be celebrated on September 26, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Norton Memorial Funeral Home at 19 Clapp Street, Norton. Burial with military honors will follow at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Dorchester.
Visiting hours will be on Monday, September 25th, from 4:00-7:00PM at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp Street (off Route 140, Taunton Avenue) in Norton.
