It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Jane Connor (Scurrah) on September 14, 2023, at the age of 86. She departed after a truly heroic battle at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts.
Born in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts on January 6, 1937 to Muriel (Sands) and James Scurrah, Betty was known for her sharp wit, her affinity for a good pun, her sweet tooth, and her enthusiasm as an avid golf and tennis fan. Her love for family was evident in every interaction, and she held a special place in her heart for dear friends in the Once-a-Month-Club and her beloved sisters, especially Muriel.
She was the treasured mother to Christopher Connor (Francesca), Susan Eastman (Eric), and Jon Connor. As a grandmother, her joy was unmistakable when surrounded by Christopher Jr., Isabella, Julianna, and Matthew.
A graduate of Jamacia Plain High School, Betty had a fulfilling professional life at Sears & Roebuck and later Decelle’s. But it was her quirks that made Betty truly unique. Her favorite meal was breakfast, lovingly prepared by her favorite son-in-law Eric. Betty delighted in a cup of tea while adding incredible details and playfully correcting other people's stories, a trait that brought many a chuckle to family gatherings.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved husband, John, and her siblings: Ruth, Virginia, Barbara, Patricia, James, and Nancy.
The family invites all to join in celebrating Betty's remarkable life:
- Wake: Tuesday, September 26th from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Gormley Funeral Home, 2055 Centre St, West Roxbury
- Funeral Mass: Wednesday, September 27th at 11:00 AM at Holy Name Church, 1689 Centre West Roxbury
In memory of Betty, the family kindly requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to:
Marc Schermerhorn, MD, Vascular Surgery Research, 110 Francis Street, Suite 5B, Boston, MA 02215
Betty's vibrant spirit, her love of family, and her remarkable hidden strength will forever be remembered by all whom she touched.
