Charles F. "Mudd" Murray, 79, of New Bedford died September 18, 2023 at St. Luke's Hospital after a long illness.
Born in Acushnet, son of Alice (Dupuis) Daher of New Bedford and the late Joseph Daher, he lived in New Bedford all of his life.
He was formerly employed by the Bedford VA Hospital and Holy Family High School before retiring from a long career at Bishop Stang High School. While at Stang he was in charge of maintenance and grounds keeping. His favorite pastime was walking the hallways joking with the students and staff. In acknowledgement of his devotion to Stang, he was honored by 3 graduating classes by having the yearbook dedicated in his honor.
He was a communicant of Our Lady of Purgatory Church in New Bedford. Charlie was a devoted member of the Diocese of Fall River, always being called by parishes and convents with help for maintenance knowing he would always come through.
He was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick. He was a gifted musician and played the mandolin in the choir at St. Anthony of the Desert Church in Fall River for many years. He was also a member of the Phoenicians, an Arabic band known throughout New England.
Survivors include his mother; his sister, Mary Ann Daher and her husband Anders Jensen of Falmouth; and nieces, nephews and cousins.
His visiting hours will be held on Thursday, September 21st from 4-6 PM in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford. His Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 22nd at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery.
