Obituary

Frances Lee Toth, 81, longtime resident of Tewksbury, MA, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on August 26, 2022. Lee is survived by her devoted husband, Marton with whom she shared 59 years of marriage. She was the mother of five children: M. Stephen (deceased) and his wife, Teri Norton of Lowell MA; David and his wife, Ellen (Rockwell) of Merrimack NH; Andrew of Dunstable MA; Caron and her husband, Matthew Mazzaferro of Leominster MA; and Susan and her husband, Todd Shaffer of Dover NH. She was the grandmother of eight wonderful grandchildren: Julia, Nicholas, Jason and Amanda Mazzaferro, Sarah Toth, Haley and Maiya Toth, and Rowan Shaffer, all of whom provided a lifetime of fond memories.

Lee Toth was born August 27, 1940, the eldest of four children to J. Kenneth Conway and his wife, Marie (Caron) Conway. She spent her formative years in West Newton and Wayland MA. She is also survived by her sisters, Lyn and her husband, Robert DiBiase of Carlisle MA, and Judy and her husband, Kevin Courchine of Wayland MA. Her brother John K. Conway, Jr. passed away in 2014. She was aunt to Dan DiBiase of Kittery ME, Bill DiBiase of San Diego CA, Brian Courchine of Peterborough NH and Allison Courchine of Wayland MA.

Lee graduated from Wayland High School, Class of 1958. She became an RN at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Brighton, MA in 1961.

Lee married Marton in 1963 and the family lived on Patten Road, then moved to Andover Street in Tewksbury. They were active in town activities and spent many wonderful extended family vacations on Cape Cod and North Woodstock, NH. She was well known as a wordsmith, as she loved to read, do crossword puzzles and played a competitive game of Scrabble.

Lee was a member of many singing groups, most notably in Region One, Sweet Adelines, Inc., and the St. William’s Church choir in Tewksbury. She worked in clinics at Bon Secours (later Holy Family Hospital) in Methuen, and Lowell Community Health Clinic in Lowell on Merrimack Street, later on Jackson Street.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, Sept. 17, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery, 90 River Road, Tewksbury. Those attending are encouraged to meet at the cemetery by 10:45 a.m. Masks are optional, and bring an umbrella if weather indicates. Reception to follow at the Toth family home at 1044 Andover Street, Tewksbury, MA.
