Walter C. Libby, a longtime resident of Andover and beloved husband of Janet (Baccari) Libby, passed away at the High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill, on Sunday, September 17, 2023. He was 78 years old.
Born in Boston on April 26, 1945 he was the beloved son of the late Walter C. and Ann V. (Dotoli) Libby. Besides Janet, his beloved wife of 50 years, Walter is survived by his loving sons, Jason L. and his wife, Kristin Libby of Dracut and Matthew W. Libby and his partner, Yvonne Darosa, of Beverly. He is also survived by his sister, Roseann Wilder of Revere, his late brother, Edward J. Libby, and his three grandchildren Megan Busby, Ryan and Rachel Libby.
For 32 years Walter was a mechanical foreman for the commuter rail with the Boston & Maine Railroad, Amtrak, and MBCR. He was known by many, especially his sons, as a person who could fix anything. One of the initial things you noticed about Walter was his height. He was 6 feet 6 inches tall and was affectionately described by those who knew him as a “gentle giant”, a fitting description for such a kind-hearted, friendly man.
Once retired Walter lived in The Villages, FL for 7 years. He would tell anyone and everyone what a great place The Villages was to live. He enjoyed playing golf, cruising around the streets in his golf cart, and participating in the many social activities the community offered. He also enjoyed traveling - exploring new places, trying new foods, and meeting new people.
His Funeral Service will be celebrated in the Burke-Magliozzi Funeral Home, 390 North Main Street, Andover on Friday, September 29, 2023, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are most welcome to attend. Interment will be privately held.
