STANDISH- Gene Gilman Day, 82, passed away peacefully at his home with family by his side.
He was born at home in Cornish, Me on January 15th, 1941, to the late Raymond Earl Day and Jennie (Gilman) Day
He was a star Basketball and baseball player while attending Cornish High School. After graduating in 1959, Gene entered and proudly served in the Army.
Upon returning home, Gene married Judith Gammon. Gene joined his father in the roofing and construction business and held several jobs during his career. He enjoyed hunting, working on cars, dancing ,and time with his family!
He is predeceased by a brother -Llyod Day and a sister-Lucille Woodsome- and his best friend and brother-in-law, Norman Moore.
Gene is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years - Judith Elaine (Gammon) Day; their children- Bradley Day and his wife Brenda of Naples, Allen Scott Day of Westbrook, Lisa Day and her wife Jennifer of Gardiner, and April Kimball and her husband Micheal of Standish; Sister- Pauline Moore of Windham; seven grandchildren- Matthew, Britney, Krista, Allison, Holley, Nicholas, and Kevin; and seven great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held on Monday September 25th at 1:00pm at Poitras, Neal & York Funeral Home, 71 Maple St Cornish, ME. Online condolence messages can be submitted at
